Youth Services Social Worker 

This position performs intermediate professional work involving the assessment of client needs, counseling and providing access to needed and appropriate services including treatment, rehabilitation and service linkage, case monitoring and client advocacy functions as well as related work as required. Duties include assessing needs; providing clinical and case management services to children and families; maintaining records and files; preparing reports. Also responsible for coordinating prevention programming and positive youth development activities. Work is performed under regular supervision. Position reports to the Youth Services Supervisor.

Essential Functions:

1. Assesses client psycho-social needs; presents options and services based upon needs assessment.
2. Provides individual, family and group therapy, collaboration, and case management with other behavior health professionals.
3. Maintains case records; collaboratively develops intervention plan with clients.
4. Coordinates client services, consults and collaborates with schools, police, the courts and other agencies and service providers.
5. Provides information and referral services; works closely with State and local agencies, transports clients as directed and conducts home visits.
6. Directs work in the school with groups of children and individuals for therapeutic purposes as well as positive youth development and prevention; attends parent placement meetings, crisis meetings and conferences to facilitate positive outcomes 2 for clients.
7. Develops and implements positive youth development mentoring and prevention programs as indicated. Develops and leads parent education and support and therapeutic groups as directed by supervisor.
8. Works collaboratively with the judicial system when necessary and supports restorative justice diversion programming.
9. Recruits, trains and supervises volunteers and interns.
10.Types documents, case records, reports, correspondence; copies, mails and faxes documents; maintains records and monetary expenditures.
11.Schedules appointments and meetings.
12.Performs related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
This position requires knowledge of: ·

  • General knowledge of programs and services impacting youth and their families; thorough knowledge of child, adolescent, and adult behavioral issues and the problem solving process; thorough knowledge of human development and behavior; knowledge of the theories, principles and techniques of individual, family and group therapy.
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Word.

This position requires you to have the ability to:

  • Ability to solve problems within scope of responsibility; ability to analyze facts and exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions; ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, orally and in writing; ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients and their families, associates, other professional and technical staff, social agencies, schools, and the general public.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.

Education and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s degree in social work and considerable experience in counseling and case management.

Experience and training in adventure based positive youth development and restorative justice programming highly desirable.

Licenses & Certifications:

1. LMSW or the ability to obtain license within 6 months of employment required.
2. Possession of public service driver’s license or the ability to obtain a license within 6 months of employment required

Special Requirements: Some evening hours and ability to work a flexible work schedule required. Participation in adventure based programming required.
