Cyberspace Safety

Presented by: Officer Scott Driscoll

Scott Driscoll, Police Officer and Internet Safety expert, became a member of the FBI Innocent Images Task Force in New Haven, Connecticut in 2003. During his tenure with this task force, Scott led and assisted in numerous operations involving computer crimes against children. These investigations included undercover online investigations, possession of child pornography, distribution of child pornography and other crimes involving child victims. While he was investigating these crimes, he realized one element to computer crimes was missing - education on Internet and technology safety. This was the impetus for Scott to begin teaching groups outside of the schools about Internet dangers and how to be safe on the Internet and while using other technology.

In 2007, Scott started a consulting/education business called Internet Safety Concepts. With this company, Scott has been able to reach more people through conferences and seminars. His message is clear: if you don’t think about safety while you are on the Internet and using other technology, you can put yourself and your family in danger. Scott has presented to tens of thousands of students

Meeting the Unique Needs of Children in Disasters: One Size Does Not Fit All

Presenter: Bruce Lockwood, CEM

Children comprise about 25 percent of our population and have unique needs during a disaster that require specific recognition and coordination.  The rise in major disaster declarations over the past two decades, and more recent disasters have highlighted the need to improve the gaps in preparedness, response and recovery policies that should specifically address the needs of children.  This program will present recommendations from the 2010 National Commission on Children in Disasters Report to the President and Congress, where are we today, what can we still do, and what programs are available to help. Learn how community planning meets the needs of families.  Mr. Lockwood has 30 years of experience in emergency management, emergency medical services and public safety, with extensive planning at the local, regional and state levels for children's needs in disaster situations.  He is a former Commissioner of the National Commission on Children and Disasters, a member of the Governor's Prevention Partnership School Safety Portal Committee and the Child Safety and Crisis Response, State of Connecticut, Daycare and Child Care Subcommittee; he also served on the Connecticut Public Health Emergency Preparedness Advisory Committee.
